RapidEye has successfully launched a group of five identical satellites in an intricately designed orbit to maximize coverage of the earth’s surface with a very fast refresh rate. The satellites provide 5-meter resolution imagery at a rate of 1500 square kilometers per orbit, resulting in roughly four million square kilometers of new imagery every day. The collections occur at 11:00 am local time.

These satellites are perfectly suited for land use and land cover analyses as well as large area monitoring projects. Any projects that would benefit from near real-time services would be well served by the RapidEye constellation of satellites.
